Label TextGeorge Petranic, a Carnegie Illinois Steel Co. worker, and his family worshipped at St. John the Baptist Greek Catholic Church in Homestead. The church became the center of their community and life. This simple St. Nicholas relief, framed and hung on a blue cloth, had a place of honor on the bedroom wall in George’s home. Many Carpatho-Rusyns prayed to St. Nicholas, their patron saint, for strength and support in challenging times.
