But a few strokes on this hone are all that is necessary to pro- / duce a keen non-pulling edge; its texture is absolutely uniform and despite / its fast cutting qualities its surface has that velvety smoothness so necessary / in the care of a delicate razor. / Apply thin coating of later each time hone is used. Be sure that the razor / blade is perfectly flat on the hone. Use long, sweeping, light strokes from / heel to point, turning the blade upwards. Good results can also be had by / using the hone dry."
Historical NotesPart of a collection of hair salon supplies used at Josephine’s Beauty Salon on Liberty Avenue in Bloomfield. Josephine Mazzacco (1911-2012) opened Josephine’s after graduating from Griffith in 1931. She opened her own shop in 1947, and it closed in 1995.
