Historical NotesThe North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA) was formed in 1977 and is composed of law enforcement officers throughout the United States and several other countries. Their mission is to assist police work dog teams throughout the world by conducting service training workshops. Mayer DeRoy served on the Pittsburgh Police force from 1960-1992. He served as Pittsburgh Police Chief from May 17, 1990 to June 15, 1992. From 1992-1995 he was the Chief of the Homestead Police. Patrolman Julius P. Kmak and Ben Polumbi were the founding members of the Pittsburgh Police's K-9 Unit which was established on November 17,1958. Part of the Pittsburgh Police Historical Association collection.
