DescriptionTin clothing mister. Cylindrical body with cork opening on top, and a conical opening.Dimensions11 in. (27.9 cm)Historical NotesAcquired from the Soo Sing Laundry in Wilkinsburg, PA. The bronze water mister was made in China and is over 100 years old. These pieces could be ordered by the laundry suppliers in America. The mister was used to dampen clothes before ironing. A handbroom was first used to wet the entire piece of clothing, which was then rolled up and placed in a pile. When it was time to iron the clothing, the mister was used to dampen the spots that were missed. The can was filled 1/2 to 3/4 full of water. Then the laundryman would blow into the spout to produce a vapor.Label TextAcquired by the Soo Sing Laundry in Wilkinsburg, this mister was used to dampen clothes before ironing.
