MarksEtched on barrel on one side is "J.C. HIGGINS MODEL 20-12 GA. / SEARS, ROEBUCK AND CO. 583.55", and on other side is: "PROOF TESTED 12 GA.-MOD. / 2 3/4" CHAMBER".
Historical NotesAccording to the tags attached to the gun, it was taken as evidence to the Major Crimes Department and was involved in an aggravated assault against Charles Hicks, committed at 1315 N Murtland by David Pippens. The case involved detectives Balobeck, Antonocci, and Cavanaugh. The J.C. Higgins brand was a low cost sporting goods line sold by Sears & Roebuck Co. from 1908-1961. It was replaced by the Ted Wiliams line in 1961. This gun has no serial #. All firearms prior to 1968 were not required to have serial numbers.
