Historical NotesPocket knife belonging to Norman B. Richardson, who co-owned the Seventh Avenue Hotel from 1907 to 1917 and became the sole proprietor from 1917 to 1929. Born in Somerset County in 1862, he spent many years in the hotel business all over the country. In 1882, Richardson was employed as a clerk at the Monongahela House and moved up to management by 1900. He maintained a residence in the Seventh Avenue Hotel and a country residence (Ednor Place) near his birthplace in Somerset County. He died in 1936. The Seventh Avenue Hotel was located on Seventh Avenue and Liberty Street in downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1876 in the Queen Anne style. In 1950, the hotel was bought by the Earle-Milner Hotel chain and called the Earl Hotel. On April 1, 1963 it was replaced by a Pittsburgh City parking garage.
