Historical NotesDapper Dan Roundball Classic bag from the 1968 competition. Donor Laurence J. Prezioso's uncle obtained this player bag although he did not participate in the event. He gave it to the donor in 1968 and he used it for many years. The Dapper Dan Roundball was an annual event held at the Civic Arena that brought together elite high school basketball players. It started in 1965 and is known as the first national high school All Star basketball game. Two local friends, Sonny Vaccaro and Pat DiCesare are credited with coming up with the idea and partnering with Al Abrams, a sports writer at the Post-Gazette and president of the Dapper Dan Charities, which became the event sponsor. It was played in the Civic Arena every year until 1993 when Dapper Dan pulled their promotion and Vaccaro moved the Roundball to Detroit. For many years it was called the Magic Johnson's Roundball and then just simply as the Roundball Classic. The last game was played in Chicago in 2007.
