DescriptionHand-cranked motion-picture projector. Projector consists of a rectangular wooden platform on four metal legs. Tall rectangular sheet-metal box with hinged top and side door, and porcelain lampholder inside. Snoot on front with slide-holder and mica door. Front of unit has Lubin film advance and lens, various sprockets and flim guide, and focusing lens on front.Dimensions24.25 x 12 x 26.2499 in. (61.6 x 30.5 x 66.7 cm)Historical NotesThe projector possibly originally used a carbon burner as a light source, (note red porthole on side of door) now converted to incandescent lamp. This Lubin projector is considered to be the unit used at the first nickelodeon opened by John Harris & Harry Davis at 433-435 Smithfield Street in Pittsburgh on June 19,1905.
