Historical NotesThis accession includes Dapper Dan Golden Gloves trophy, robe, trunks, and shoes from the 1963 Dapper Dan awards. The donor, David Bair, won the Dapper Dan Outstanding Junior Novice Golden Gloves award from the 18th Annual Dapper Dan Golden Gloves Awards held at the Civic Arena. David Bair trained at the East Liberty Gym and attended Wilkinsburg High School, which he graduated from in 1963. After high school he spent two years in the Pittsburgh area continuing to box until he joined the Navy in 1965. After the Navy he returned to his job at United Engineering but no longer boxed. Collected to expand both our boxing collection and to document the Dapper Dans, a local sports club turned charity founded in 1936. Dapper Dan started a Sportsman of the Year award to recognize local talent.
