Historical NotesKDKA-TV, Square Dance Tonight watch fob belonging to Dale Liken. Square dancing, an early American form of social engagement, experienced something of a revival in the late 1940s and remained popular into the 1950s. KDKA-TV sponsored a square dance contest that was held in their studio in 1956. "Squares" signed up and then competed on air while people called in and voted. The "Partners All" won the square dance competition. They were a group from Forest Hills who met and danced at the Women's clubhouse in Forest Hills. The couples were all long time friends and relatives. Their group, named "Partners All", received the trophy for their win and each man received a watch fob and each woman received a bracelet. The girls wore black skirts, white tops, and red scarves. Adaline Liken is the only surviving member from the square, she provided much of the information. Dale and Ada knew Ray Haynes from college. They met Virginia through Ray, she was a secretary at Westinghouse. Ray's granddaughter Nancy Orman inherited the trophy and Virginia's dance cards and photographs.
