DescriptionLight brown cane with wooden shaft and sterling silver cap. Wood is tapered with a glossy finish and the cap at the top is mushroom-shaped. On top of handle engraved with diagonal line shading is owner's initials and around the side of the handle is a date and is decorated with flowers. Below this is the maker's mark.Dimensions1.25 x 1.25 x 25.187 in. (3.2 x 3.2 x 64 cm)
InscriptionsOn top of handle engraved with diagonal line shading is "G.W.III" and around the side of the handle reads: "MAY 20TH 1889".
MarksBelow engraved initials and date is Gorham maker's mark consisting of three horizontal symbols: on the far left is a right-facing lion, in the middle is an anchor, and on the far right is a "G" in Old English script.

Below the maker's mark is stamped text "STERLING", "GORHAM MFG. CO", "119", and an encircled star.
Historical NotesCane used by George Westinghouse, Jr. Engraving suggests that it was made for some sort of occassion celebrating George Westinghouse III.
