Label TextFirst developed in the 1930s, protective clothing for industrial workers initially incorporated asbestos fibers. In the 1960s, the army began testing suits made of aluminum and insulating kraft paper during controlled forest fires for potential use by firefighters. This aluminized heat suit, or fire proximity suit, protected workers from the heat of molten steel.
