InscriptionsPrinted in black ink: "UNION, / FREEDOM & JUSTICE". Under this is an image of Geary facing right. Under this reads " 'I Vote as I Fight.' / FOR GOVERNOR, / Maj. Gen. JOHN W. GEARY." Handwritten in pencil once on the front and twice on the back of the ribbon near the bottom is the name "J.L. Kendlehart". Also written in pencil is "U.S." on the forehead of Geary's face in his image.
