DescriptionLard can with lid. Cylindrical metal can. One handle riveted to each side near top; right handle has length of twine tied to it. Rolled rim. Two vertical seams. Historical NotesFort Pitt pure lard was made from around 1923 to 1953, by the Fried & Reineman Packing Company on East Ohio in the Northside, as part of their Fort Pitt brand of products. Fried & Reineman was founded in 1897 and by the 1930s was one of the largest independent packing plants in the region. It was run by the Fried and Reineman families after being founded by E.A. Reineman and William G. Fried. Fort Pitt lard was made by the dry rendering process.
