DescriptionColorless glass nappy. McKee Brothers' Bellflower pattern, also known as Ribbed Leaf pattern or Ribbed Bellflower pattern. Large, high-footed nappy ("nappy" is the term used in the 1864 catalog; Welker also calls this an open compote); design consists of a single vine undulating through the body with 2 bellflowers, 2 leaves, and 2 shamrock-shaped leaves. The background is ribbed and extends through the point and scalloped rim. The inside of the bowl is smooth. In the center of the interior base the collar is visible and appears to be a series of concentric circles with a hexagonal shape in the middle. There are a couple of flaws in this area that appear to be scratches but are embedded in the glass. On the exterior, the collar consists of slightly raised concentric circles, which sit on a ring that sits on the top of the stem. The ring is very slightly out of plane as it attaches to the bowl. The stem is flared at the top where it attaches to the ring and has 6 panels that flow into a stepped foot, which is affixed to another high, rounded and hollow foot. The variety in form of these two patterns serves as an important addition to our pressed glass collection.
