Historical NotesThis cannonball was excvated at the site of Dunbar's Camp. About 50 miles from Fort Duquesne, General Braddock's troops split. A smaller division continued on with Braddock, while a second division stayed near present day Jumonville under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Dunbar. Survivors of the July 9, 1755 Battle of the Monongahela fled back to Dunbar's encampment. Before he died of his wounds, Braddock ordered Dunbar to destroy the remaining military supplies and retreat.
