Historical Notes1969 Gateway High School practice jacket worn by the donor Walter "Pete" Antimarino. Walter "Pete" Antimarino built a powerhouse program at Gateway in the 30-plus years he coached there. The team won three WPIAL championships, two co-championships, and lost in the title game twice enroute to a 238-80-12 record under Antimarino. A home town boy, Pete began his local coaching career at Pitcairn working as an assistant for another legend, Chuck Klausing. When Pitcairn and Monroeville merged in 1958, he became Gateway's first head coach. With records too numerous to list, Antimarino's most vivid memory is of the 1969 title game against Altoona when the 22-15 Gator victory was, "the best thing that happened to me in my career. It gained the AA crown and elevated our school district to the greatest heights in high school football."
