Historical NotesThis painting was loaned to the Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania by Emma Robertson Hurtt. She was the grandaughter of Marion McDowell Scully.Label TextMarion McDowell, born in Meadville, Pennsylvania, was the daughter of physician, Dr. Andrew McDowell. She married John D. Scully who worked at the First National Bank for over forty years, was the director of several railroads, treasurer of Mercy Hospital, and financial advisor to the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh. One of her six sisters was married to Stephen Collins Foster. It is said that Marion Station in Hazelwood was named for her.
