Historical NotesPart of a collection of drawings and paintings by Jane Haskell. Jane Haskell, born Shirley Jane Zirinsky, was born in Cedarhurst, Long Island, New York on November 24, 1923, and died in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on May 28, 2013. She earned a bachelor of fine arts degree from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York in 1944 where she studied painting and design. She married Edward Norton Haskell in August of 1945. The family moved from New York to Pittsburgh in 1949. She earned a master's degree in art history from the University of Pittsburgh in 1961. She taught at Duquesne University for a decade. In her early career she was a painter and sculptor, and in 1979 she began to incorporate neon and light elements into her artwork.
