Historical NotesYardstick from the Levine Brothers hardware store promoting the W.W. Lawrence Paint Company of Pittsburgh which sold their products at Levine Brothers' stores. They had a large factory at the base of the Duquesne Incline and at one point the Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania (now the Heinz History Center) was considering that as a possible site for the History Center before settling on the Strip District location. The company was started in 1884, and the paint factory closed in 1973. Levine Brothers operated several hardware stores in the city of Pittsburgh; their Hazelwood location closed in 2003.
