Historical NotesA glass bowl made at the request of President Obama as a gift to the Finance Ministers for the G-20 PIttsburgh Summit. The handmade 12-inch bowl made of recycled glass has an amber metallic base representing the steel industry that Pittsburgh was built upon. Rising up from the base is a translucent green bowl showing Pittsburgh's transformation to a cleaner, greener city. Clear glass ribbons were individually wrapped around each bowl to illustrate Pittsburgh's creativity and individuality. No bowl is the same. Finishing the top of the piece is a bright blue lip symbolizing Pittsburgh's iconic rivers. The Pittsburgh Summit logo is etched on the bottom of each bowl. Thirty-seven bowls were designed and created in September 2009, by the artists at the Pittsburgh Glass Center including gaffers Chris Clarke and Heather McElwee and production artists Brian Engel, Jason Forck, Everett Hirche, Paige Ilkhanipour, Samantha Laffey, Janice Larko, Heather Joy Puskarich, and Becky Smith.
