Historical NotesA painting by John W. Beatty (1851-1924) who served as the first director of the Carnegie Museum of Art from 1886-1921. Beatty, a native Pittsburgher, was an accomplished painter, illustrator, and silver engraver. Farm scenes are one of his best-known subjects.
