Louis Fleishman

BiographyLouis Fleishman was born in Bavaria. He came to Pittsburgh from Richmond, Va. shortly after the start of the Civil War and started a grocery business in partnership with his brother. He was one of the early members of Rodef Shalom Congregation and is buried in the Bes Almon Cemetery in Troy Hill. With his wife Louisa, Louis Fleishman had at least four children, Solomon, Pauline, Jacob, and Adaline. Solomon Fleishman was admitted to the bar in the early 1870s. He became one of the first Jewish lawyers practicing in Allegheny County and was one of the top life insurance salesmen in the region in the late 19th century. Pauline Fleishman married Barney May, founder of May Drug Co.
