Jennings Daniel Breedon

Jennings Daniel Breedon was born in Richwood, West Virginia in 1927. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 into 1946. After his military service he started work at the Cherry River Coal Company as a miner from June through September of 1946. He left to attend school, but by the fall of 1947 he was back in the mines, this time at the Imperial Smokeless Coal Company, also in West Virginia. He left because of a lack of work and started work at the Johnstown Coal and Coke Company in their Nettie, West Virginia mine. There he worked his way up to a General Mine Foreman and in 1962 he left to work for the Bureau of Mines as a mine inspector. He started out inspecting mines near Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, from 1962 until around 1970. Then he transferred to Monroeville, Pennsylvania, and worked for the Mining Enforcement and Safety Administration (became Mining Safety and Health Administration) until 1982. Then he was transferred to Kentucky for about six years. Afterwards he returned to the Monroeville area to finish out his career.
