Warren Hebrew Congregation1906 - 1993

The Warren Hebrew Congregation (also known as Tiphereth Israel or “Glory of Israel”) was a Jewish congregation in Warren, Pa. The congregation was chartered in 1906 as “First Warren Hebrew Congregation Tefaires Israel” and met in rented rooms until 1918, when its members acquired and remodeled the United Brethren Church building at 112 Conewango Avenue. A major renovation in 1955 modernized the interior of the synagogue, especially its sanctuary. Rabbi Aaron Shulman was the first spiritual leader of the congregation and, even after retiring from the pulpit, oversaw the congregational religious school until his death in 1976. Warren Hebrew Congregation closed in 1993 after years of declining membership and sold its synagogue to a church group in 1996.
