Ace Printing Company

BiographyThe Sappy’s Barber Shop trade sign was made by the Ace Printing Company in 1929. The sign was once in a “museum & collectible auction” and was advertised as a rare item in a newspaper ad along with other items. The Ace Printing company was owned by William J. Cone who died in 2005. The printing company used to be run in the back of a Wright’s department store. The sign displays rhetoric noting the business is “for colored only.” Noting segregation of services. There is no indication that Sappy’s was owned by an African American but did cater to that clientele.
