Schmuel Cohen1865 - 1936

Schmuel (Samuel) Cohen, a Lithuania Jew from the town of Grosza, had a small butcher shop in Uniontown with his wife Minnie Greenspan Cohen. He and his wife later moved to Pittsburgh about 1920 and lived just two blocks from Adath Jeshurun Synagogue on Margaretta Street. At the synagogue he worked in many capacities, including as a maker of ritual wines and as a moyel (one who performs ritual circumcisions) for the Jews in the East End.
