The model of 1842 was the first regulation model of musket made with the percussion ignition system at the National Armories; these were produced at the Harper's Ferry arsenal, c.1844 to 1855; estimated total production of this model was about 103,000 units; the component parts were fully interchangable with those made at the Springfield Armory;Label TextProduced in large numbers between 1844 and 1855, Union and Confederate soldiers used this .69 caliber smoothbore musket in the early years of the war. The Model 1842 was the first U.S. regulation musket to use the percussion firing system.
