Historical NotesFlatware from the Aliquippa Jewish Community Center. The flatware includes an engraving: “Aliq Jewish Community Center – F”; the “F” most likely stands for “fleishig,” meaning “meat.” According to traditional custom, meat and milk are kept separate and the dishes used for each are also kept separate. These were likely used for meat courses. The Aliquippa Jewish Community Center was chartered in 1959, bringing together the two existing Jewish congregations in the borough: Agudath Achim Congregation and Beth Jacob Congregation. The earlier congregations were Orthodox but the merged congregation aligned with the Conservative movement.
