Historical NotesThis IBM Memory 100-Dial typewriter was used by the donor when she worked at Mobay Chemical Corporation. The donor, Irene K. Petredis, is a graduate of Robert Morris University and an Oakmont native. She started to work for Mobay Chemical Corporation (now Bayer) in 1975 as the Executive Staff Assistant to the Vice President of the Environmental Engineering Department, and she retired in 1995. In 1977, she was one of three women trained on the IBM Memory Typewriter which cost $4,500.00 new. The company actually leased the machine to buy and had a servicing contract with IBM. They originally purchased a 50-Dial and realized in about a year that they actually needed the 100-Dial machine. By 1990, they had cancelled their maintenance contract with IBM as they began to introduce computers and the Petredis was able to purchase the machine for $50.00.
