DescriptionCoat with A-line narrow shoulders and widely flared skirt. Burgundy velvet ground almost completely covered with gold and silver-colored metal braid raised applique in geometric patterns. Bordered in gold brocade ribbon and silver braid. Flap-like false sleeves with pointed lobe on center bottom edge, lined with orange silk. Ten large gold buttons on each side of top front opening. Pink coral beads and gold and coral buttons on outside edge of lower sleeve. Body lined in ikat-dyed banded silk.Dimensions41 x 40.25 in. (104.1 x 102.2 cm)
Historical NotesBride's coat from Albanian wedding costume. Transferred from the Carnegie Museum of Natural History (CMNH), originally donated on May 18, 1948, by Mrs. Frank R. Denton (Miss Pauline Glickman?).
