Label TextNeil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, exited the lunar module through a hatch made from an aluminum alloy developed by ALCOA. Lightweight and durable, aluminum has been used in nearly every flying machine since the Wright Brothers first flight at Kitty Hawk in 1903. In addition to the hatch, the Lunar Module used Alcoa aluminum for the ladder and much of the body.
